Buffet Lamps

Using buffet lamps to help illuminate your dining room and other relevant areas in your home is like taking a step back in time and paying a visit to a simpler, somewhat more elegant time.  Buffet lighting fixtures tend to be some of the more ornate and finely crafted lamps you will find when shopping but far too many of us pass them by as unnecessary “extras”.

When it comes to creating an atmosphere of subtle sophistication and refinement, the buffet lamp is the perfect fixture.  Traditionally, you would expect to find buffet light fixtures used to help illuminate a “buffet table” or some food serving area in the dining room.  These ornate light fixtures do not emit as much task illumination as the standard table lamp but they more than compensate with their beauty and charm.

Although most of us probably do not have a true buffet table adorning our dining room area, there are plenty of spaces in your home that would benefit from the beauty and refinement of the buffet lamp.  To help create a more relaxing and romantic atmosphere at the dinner table, try illuminating the space with a pair of buffet fixtures featured in a symmetrical presentation for a more compelling decorative effect.  By turning off the other light fixtures in the space, the buffet lights will simultaneously become compelling sources of ambient, task, and even accent lighting.

The dining room table is hardly the only space in your home that would benefit from a gorgeous buffet lights.  A hutch is another prime location to illuminate with these ornate light fixtures.  You can either try an asymmetrical display with one fixture centered on top of the hutch or use a symmetrical approach and adorn opposing ends of the piece.

A secretary desk is another place where the beauty and simple grace of buffet lighting looks positively perfect.  These stately yet functional desks are often smaller than a traditional work space making the buffet table lamp an aptly suited fixture for the area.  When other sources of illumination are turned off or dimmed, the buffet table lamp can be used to provide subtly diffused accent lighting while setting a more relaxing ambiance in the space.

No matter where you intend to display and use your buffet lamp(s), it is important to remember that its shade, base, and accents all must complement and accentuate the overall design of your home as well as the surrounding décor itself.  Although the use of contrast is a common and often effective interior design technique, light fixtures that help define and build upon existing motifs tend to play a more dramatic role in the overall look and feel of any space.  Buffet lamps are classic light fixtures that help imbue any space with refinement and elegance so be sure to do your homework and find those that best complement your lovely home and décor.
