Actually, the company did not begin by building table lamps or light fixtures at all.  As a way to help pass the time while her son Murray was off serving his country in World War II, Rose Feiss began sewing lampshades together in her small apartment in the Bronx.  What began as more of a hobby than any lighting business, Rose’s pastime started to take on a life of its own when her son returned from the war.  

Upon his return and after Rose had developed her hobby into a virtual cottage industry in the Bronx filled with housewives and mothers sewing lampshades in their small apartments, Murray Feiss lighting was born.  The company began importing light fixtures and adding the wiring and shades to produce uniquely fashioned buffet, table, and accent lamps.  

As the company grew and the years passed, new facilities were built and the product line grew to include chandeliers, casual fixtures, vanity lights, outdoor fixtures, torchieres, and of course still remaining true to their roots and producing quality made table, accent, and buffet lamps.  Once finished, all fixtures are quality tested twice which is part of the reason why the company is known for producing some of the best lamps and lights in the industry.
