Highlighting with Table Lamps

There are many elements that combine together to create the look, feel, and functionality of your décor.  Table lamps may not seem very important to your interior design but when chosen properly these common sources of task lighting can completely transform a space visually and functionally.  By properly coordinating lamps with the style and color scheme of your surrounding furnishing and the design of your home itself, you can accentuate your existing décor, add an additional layer of illumination, and intensify the entire space.

In the bedroom, table lamps are often gracing night stands or accent tables and provide added illumination for curling up and catching up on our reading.  If the design of the home and surrounding décor is traditional, then Tiffany lamps would make a fabulous addition to the room while still complementing and even unifying the other decorative elements in the space.  For more contemporary settings, try a Mission style table lamp with materials and base that are complementary to the other décor.

Mission style table lamps are also great for other styles.  The important thing to remember is that the fixtures themselves must be of the similar style (or preferably actually from the same collection).  Thus, if you already have a lovely ceiling fixture or are redecorating the space entirely, be sure that your light fixtures accentuate one another and the surrounding décor for a professional interior design and lighting scheme.

In the living room, table lamps are commonly found on opposing sides of a couch or sofa adorning end tables.  The base of the lamps should complement elements in your surrounding furniture.  If you have a modern décor and your end tables are made out of some form of steel and glass, then be sure the finish on the base and accents of your lamp is the same as that used on the end table.

For a more traditional or perhaps even rustic style of home and décor, you may want a table lamp with a little more character.  Horse lamps and other similarly themed light fixtures can help enhance a rustic décor and unify the overall design motif of a cabin, cottage, or lodge.  Victorian table lamps or perhaps even a Tiffany lighting fixture would be more apt to highlight and intensify a truly traditional design scheme.  Mica table lamps are great for just about any décor thanks to their timeless beauty, softly diffused amber hues, and ability to complement just about any base and combine for an exquisite light fixture.

From ceramic table lamps to the exotic Tiffany light fixtures, the range and diversity of these common yet vital accessories is virtually limitless.  Lamps not only provide the extra illumination we need for reading, homework, and the completion of tasks—they add balance, beauty, and harmony to your home and surrounding décor.
