Meyda Tiffany - Ugly
Cars and Humble Beginnings
Some of the biggest companies around
the world had the most humble of beginnings. Apple computers
started
in a garage and Dell originally began making computers in his
dorm
room. With Meyda Tiffany, the oldest and leading manufacturer of
Tiffany lamps and decorative lighting, it all started with an
ugly
car.
Tired of looking at their neighbor's "classic"
automobiles through their kitchen window, Ida and Meyer
Cohen decided to make a stained glass window one day some thirty
years ago. From humble beginnings and a distaste for ugly cars,
Ida
and Meyer started a new tradition of quality craftsmanship in
decorative lighting that is carried on by the company to this
day.
That one simple stained glass window
which began as a mere hobby, turned into a business that now
offers
thousands of styles and options to choose from, including:
Ceiling pendants
Table lamps
Floor lamps
Desk lamps
Wall sconces
Fireplace screens
Flush mounted ceiling fixtures
Inspired by ugly cars and from humble
beginnings, Meyda Tiffany is now a world leader in stained glass
creations and continue to produce one of a kind light fixtures
that
are destined to become treasured heirlooms just like the
originals
created by Louis Tiffany over a century ago.
